Nutrisystem on Belle Belle Beauty

The one nice thing about a tube of lipstick is it will always fit…. the color might be wrong, but you aren’t going to have to squeeze into it. And honestly, that is part of the reason I love being a beauty junkie. But those of you that know me, also know I am just as much of a fashion junkie. I can troll the pages of shopbop.com for hours. And I pride myself on looking on trend and polished. But…. at my size (which isn’t huge but definitely not sample), I find some trends/cuts/peices just don’t work. And I can’t have that anymore. I want to embrace everything from high waisted trousers to leather shorts to… well… a bikini. Not to mention be healthy and active.

So here begins my journey on Nutrisystem. I’m excited about having a healthy, doctor-approved framework to re-learn portion size and solidify an eating schedule (did you know I never eat breakfast? – bad girl). And I am not alone! My father and uncle were inspired by my commitment and are actually one week ahead of me. Their feedback has me eager and comforted that the food is delicious and it is an easy program. I’ll be sure to keep you posted on the male point of view throughout the journey.

So, here is the scary part. My goal is to lose 30 pounds. It sounds like a terrifyingly high number. But after consulting with a doctor and reading up on the BMI business, it is where I need to be. Now, the good news! Since I found out I would be part of the Nutrisystem Blogger Program, I have already made some changes to my routine. As of today, I am already down 5 pounds and I haven’t even started! All this with Thanksgiving smack in the middle.

Can’t wait to have you guys on this journey with me. Here We Go!!!!

An Update from Belle Belle

During COVID and for a time before, I have been taking a little blog break. Not for a lack of love for Belle Belle and writing, but my focus has been drawn to other interests. After reflection during this time at home, I have realized I miss writing here and want to return to regular posting. I enjoy sharing finds, ideas and little joys from my life.

To get you up to speed, I have made some changes in my life. Some of you might know I have a full time job outside of the blog that keeps me busy (but I love it). I am grateful that I was able to work throughout the COVID crisis, albeit from home.

An extended time at home has giving me new enthusiasm for all things home décor. I even moved mid-Pandemic! I am filling my new, brighter and more spacious home with new and fresh furniture. I have also found a love of finding and collecting art. More on that to come!

The biggest change in my life over the past several months have been fitness. I went from moderately active to a full on gym junkie. I have found time in the gym keeps me energetic, positive, healthy and basically more fun. January 2019 I joined a local gym – located at a hospital and can be described as fairly basic and to be honest, catering to an older clientele. Which was just fine with me.

The game-changer was hiring a personal trainer. I worked with Lee for a couple times a week for a full year. While I am on my own now and Lee has since relocated, he is still instrumental in sharing his knowledge and guidance in my current workouts. My newfound zest for fitness is something I want to share with you.

I hope you enjoy a little fitness content as much as my journey with Nutrisystem from 2013-2014. I feel like Belle Belle has always had an element of wellness. I will be sharing workouts and Lee’s routines. And maybe one day I will graduate from the horrible cook that I am to sharing some (simple) healthy recipes.

Excited to restart and refresh this ride!

New Beginnings on Belle Belle

New Beginnings on Belle Belle

At the risk of sounding like a cliche… okay, I am kinda like one giant cliche.. but at least I own it. I am re-instituting some of my healthy habits this new year. I admit that the holidays were a bit of a free-for-all. And the new work gig has led to some laziness. Side note: I am definitely an introvert – very socially poised but I regain my strength from alone time. So I had gotten in the habit of plopping myself on the couch as soon as I got home.

You may or may not know that I lost 35 pounds a while back (12/12-7/13). I kept those suckers off until about fall of 2014. And then I gained back 13 of em. All and all, I know that isn’t too bad. But I just miss the body (and the way clothes fit) that I had worked so hard to win.

While I love Nutrisystem and will always recommend it to those who need some structure, I feel like it already instilled in me portion control and the need for exercise. I have been regimented for two weeks now and can report I have lost 6 of those 13 pounds.

I still rely greatly on prepared meals that are portioned correctly. And of course that hour of a workout after a long day. I do realize there are no short cuts or tricks as I once thought. So there is my update. I’ll keep you posted. And meanwhile, here are some finds from this week on the web:

Somehow I am missing a cable knit sweater from my closet and loving this one.

Take note: beauty trends for 2015.

This gave me all the warm fuzzies over my former hometown, San Francisco.

A modern twist on the classic trench.

I don’t care what side of the aisle you fall on… this tool is cool. #SOTU

Wednesdays On The Web

wednesday web 040914

I have really been embracing the idea of looking forward – not back – lately. Naturally breeding a more positive attitude, I think I become more motivated and creative. Instead of beating myself up for a missed workout or putting my foot in my mouth, I just know that tomorrow is the opportunity for a bigger and better day.

Speaking of workouts, I am striving to step up my game. Pool time is serious with my group of friends and I’d like to get in better shape. While I do frequent cardio, I know I could add runs and weight bearing exercises. I’m also working on my diet. Those who have read this blog know I lost 40 pounds on Nutrisystem last year. While I am still at my all time low weight, I know I need to introduce more whole foods, veggies and fruits. Not to mention, when I eat this foods my skin also looks better than ever! So, that’s where my head is these days. And of course playing and testing so many skin care and makeup goodies.

Some finds from around the web:

February Love

February Love on Belle Belle Beauty

February hasn’t been my favorite month in past years. It is cold and not terribly festive. And I am not sure I love Valentine’s Day, especially being single. But I am a little more optimistic this year. I’m one of those crazy people who loves the snow and Tulsa is getting a wallop this week. It also means the last couple weeks of my beloved winter fashions.

Ignite Your Passion – Why I Chose Beauty

Screen Shot 2013-09-04 at 7.57.03 PM

This blog was set out to be purely about beauty… what works, what doesn’t. What products I love and how to use them. I frankly didn’t think it was personal. But as Belle Belle has evolved (after three years and 815 posts), particularly through my journey on Nutrisystem, I’ve discovered blogs are intensely personal. I’ve made dear friends – some of whom I count as best confidants – via blogging. And what I write about reflects me. Every day, my tone, my subject is defined by where I am in my life.

So, charged with writing about what “ignites my passion” leads me to a point of self-reflection. Someone once gave me advice that your hobbies are hobbies and work is work. I beg to differ. While I am far from an makeup artist… beauty and skin care and the science behind it lights a fire in my belly. I love working, researching and discovering in this little industry of ours – well, let’s be honest… beauty is actually a huge industry. It marries so well with wellness, health and nutrition which recently have been so important to me. My career journey has been a bit twisted with engineering, finance and law. But the real sweetness is finding that it all can come together, writing about technology in skin care, running a business and managing my very own LLC.

While blogging full time is not always a cake walk, I can say sharing trends and wonderful developments brings joy to me. And with that, I am happily celebrating my third visit to New York Fashion Week. In fact, I am on my flight this very moment to the Big Apple. I’ll be covering the latest looks for Spring 2014. But even more importantly, I’ll be in the city that defines American brands, innovation and culture. And in this information and digital age, I will relish meeting with people I work with so closely (albeit remotely) for meetings, brainstorms and dare I say a cocktail.

So cheers to those who are searching for their passion, those who have found it and those who succeed at it. I know I am doing everything I can to work within my hobby, my passion, my interests. I’m reluctant, but will say it… because it is just so true: You Only Live Once. #YOLO
