Meaningful Beauty – Meaningful in the Mirror

Meaningful Beauty - Meaningful in the Mirror // Belle Belle Beauty

I’m baaaack! What an amazing vacation. I have to say… the beaches in the Dominican Republic are some of the most beautiful I have ever seen. My week was filled with fun, laughter (so much) and festivities. While I can’t say I am totally rested, I did come home feeling revived. Not to mention sun kissed.

I’ve also come home a bit contemplative. My summer has been full of great times and friends. But as the calendar page turns and talk of back to school is starting, I feel like turning a new leaf myself. Don’t get me wrong – the good times are not stopping. But I do want to add a little depth and discipline into my life. I’ve come back with a verve and devotion to my Nutrisystem journey – I am about to start my final month on the program. And I want to make sure that the time I spend with family and friends is thoughtful and personal. Feeling good about my skin, body and relationships is when I am most happy and I want to keep it that way!

On that same note, diving into Cindy Crawford’s Meaningful Beauty skincare line is all about empowering women to look and feel their best. The word “Meaningful” hits home and plays well with my new tagline “depth and discipline”. I’d like to think it is great to find meaning in even the smaller parts and moments of our life. To spread the word about this mission, Cindy has launched a new app on her Meaningful Beauty’s Facebook page, Meaningful in the Mirror. Through this app, Cindy’s mission is to allow women to affirm their inner-beauty & self-confidence in just a few simple steps.

Meaningful Beauty Meaningful in the Mirror Facebook App // Belle Belle Beauty

Facebook users can simply (1)“like” the Meaningful Beauty Facebook page for access to the app, (2) select a template, (3) type their custom message and (4) share it with friends or on their own page. It only takes a few minutes, but the message is theirs to keep – it can even be used as a cover photo.

I’ve been using Meaningful Beauty over the last couple of months and am completely impressed with the system. The line is all about nutrition for the skin, aiming to protect and renew. Her step by step collection is easy to follow and leads to radiant skin. It is powerful but not irritating, packed with antioxidants and vitamins.

The system is composed of 5 simple steps plus 2 bonuses:

  • Crème de Serum
  • Advanced Formula Lifting Eye Crème
  • Skin Brightening Décolleté and Neck Treatment SPF 15
  • Antioxidant Day Crème SPF 20 UVA/UVB
  • Skin Softening Cleanser
  • Wrinkle Smoothing Capsules (Bonus)
  • Glowing Serum (Bonus)

Meaningful Beauty by Cindy Crawford Crème de Serum is probably my favorite item from the system. I haven’t encountered a richer serum and the effect is fresh and dewy skin. It has almost enough hydration to act as a moisturizer too on my dry skin this summer. The packaging and orange swirl keeps active ingredients suspended until used. The superoxide dismutase (SOD) from rare French melon (orange) and anti-aging peptides (white) work with the Hyaluronic Acid (clear) to hydrate and plump the skin.

Meaningful Beauty Glowing Serum by Cindy Crawford is for those, like me, who are all about the glow. I like to use it as a primer to smooth or even to throw on your purse to add a glow/highlight throughout the day. It contains soy protein, marine botanicals and antioxidants including pumpkin extract to encourage cell renewal.

Meaningful Beauty Skin Softening Cleanser by Cindy Crawford is milky and ultra gentle. While it doesn’t quite get all my makeup off, it does contain a unique apple extract to work against aging. My skin doesn’t feel tight or stripped.

Meaningful Beauty Antioxidant Day Crème SPF 20 Broad Spectrum has become a favorite facial SPF for the days I know I’ll be in the office. I get plenty of moisture and still decent protection. I also love that Vitamin C helps brighten and even my discoloration.

Meaningful Beauty by Cindy Crawford Advanced Formula Lifting Eye Crème contains botanicals to lighten and firm that stubborn under eye area. After a late night, I really can tell this helps brighten and lift, plus it works well under makeup.

Meaningful Beauty by Cindy Crawford Skin Brightening Décolleté and Neck Treatment Broad Spectrum SPF 15 is a genius product that has definitely earned its spot in my permanent rotation. I have started to realize this often neglected area of skin is the first to betray age. The formula works against age spots, brightens and revitalizes, not to mention, provides that crucial SPF protection.

Meaningful Beauty by Cindy Crawford Wrinkle Smoothing Capsules are my new favorite on-the-go skin care item. This little capsules are so fun to use and provide a portable does of the Exclusive Microencapsulated Melon Complex and dual action Vitamin C.

I think the 5-piece New Advanced System is the best deal. It is great for those times when you want to commit to a routine to do a kind of “reset” on your skin. Not to mention, it is totally affordable at $39.95 plus s/h for 30-day supply or $119.85 with free shipping for 90-day supply. Available at  MeaningfulBeauty.com or by calling 1-877-383-1212

Good Skin from Inside Out – Tips From Simple Skincare’s Experts

Screen shot 2013-03-27 at 5.03.37 PM

Did you know that Simple Skincare has its own group of experts to share all sorts of tips and tricks to keep our skin looking great? I didn’t until I was appointed an ambassador at the beginning of this year. In the interest of a new season, I thought today would be a great time to share some tips (ones that I hadn’t heard) to get us ready for the warmer months. And, I truly believe skin can look good from the inside out, so I am including tips from Simple Nutritionist, Ellie Krieger, especially since I am on a food lifestyle journey myself!

Limit Caffeine and Hydrate Deliciously!
You don’t need to give up your morning cup of Joe! A little caffeine is okay, but drinking too much caffeine can have some serious downsides, such as anxiety, restlessness and problems sleeping.  If you need an energy boost, quenching your thirst with a more hydrating beverage, like water, may be just what you and your skin need, since one of the first signs of dehydration is fatigue, and getting enough water is important for nourishing healthy skin. For something with even more flavor and skin-loving benefits, try this watermelon water. Just put chunks of watermelon in your water pitcher, with some fresh mint leaves if you’d like, and let it sit for an hour or more to infuse the water with flavor. You can try this with cantaloupe or honeydew as well.

Satisfy Your Sweet Tooth Smartly
Foods that quickly raise your blood sugar (called high glycemic foods), such as refined sugars and baked goods, may also contribute to increased skin oil production.  For a sweet treat that is better for you and your skin, try fresh apple slices sprinkled with cinnamon instead of your usual dessert.  It could help you help decrease shine and boost your confidence.

Tomatoes to Combat Fine Lines
Fine lines are a natural part of aging, but you may be able to help combat them with the right diet. Tomatoes contain an antioxidant that may reduce the appearance of fine lines. Try an easy spinach salad with chopped tomatoes. Top your salad with almonds or sunflower seeds; their vitamin E may also help protect against wrinkles. Add a splash of extra-virgin olive oil, balsamic vinegar and a dash of salt for a tasty and effective skin-loving salad.

Berries For Brighter Skin
Healthy skin is lustrous and beautiful, and incorporating anti-oxidant rich foods into your diet may help keep it that way. For a powerful antioxidant boost, start your day with a berry bowl containing strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and blackberries. They all may help to combat dullness, helping you to maintain supple and radiant skin.

Under Eye Skin Health with Antioxidant-Rich Foods
Your eyes are the windows to your soul – and the skin surrounding them is some of the most sensitive skin on your face. So help keep your under eye skin healthy-looking with a healthy diet, including more antioxidant-rich foods, like red bell peppers and black beans. Put them together for a fantastic antioxidant-rich salsa. Just combine diced bell peppers with corn and black beans. Add a chopped jalapeño if you want a little heat. Toss together with some olive oil, a squeeze of fresh lime juice, a little fresh-ground pepper and a pinch of salt. Enjoy as a snack with baked tortilla chips or on top of grilled chicken or fish. Your taste-buds and your under eye skin will thank you.

La Prairie Skin Caviar Liquid Lift

La Prairie Skin Caviar Liquid Lift // Belle Belle Beauty

I’ve had quite the love affair with La Prairie since I began blogging. The La Prairie White Caviar Illuminating Eye Cream is still my all time favorite eye cream. And don’t get me started on the La Prairie Cellular Radiance Cream Blush. Their 3-minute Peel is a staple on my vanity. The brand consistently turns out some of the most luxurious and supremely effective skincare I’ve had the opportunity to try. In April of 2012, La Prairie launched a product that basically distilled everything wonderful about their Caviar Collection into one gorgeous bottle.

Skin Caviar Liquid Lift uses these infamous golden caviar pearls to deliver an instant lift to skin. It has even been called an “instant facelift”. While I recognize I’m not really a candidate for a facelift yet, I have been absolutely giddy about this product. The smoothing effect is genuinely unique and it has made for a fabulous primer under makeup. Over the past couple of weeks, my skin is smoother and tighter, something I’ve been concerned about as I have been losing a significant amount of weight.

A glucose-based polymer (Xanthan Gum Crosspolymer) tones and tenses skin immediately and long-term. The amino acids, vitamins and minerals in the Caviar Extracts offer nourishment and protection to the skin. A new pentapeptide helps protect and renew skin cells. My dry skin soaks up the Vitamin B5 that acts as a humectant, adding moisture to the skin. Vitamin C acts as an antioxidant.

La Prairie Skin Caviar Liquid Lift Before and After // Belle Belle Beauty

The real excitement of this products comes with the “activation”. When you purchase the bottle, the caviar beads appear in the window. Before use, remove the outer cap and press the activator. The three chambers mix three distinct formulas to combine a balanced blend. So cool!

January’s Lucky Magazine Cover Girl, Jennifer Hudson

I can honestly say Lucky and Allure are my two most favorite magazines out there and I devour every issue cover to cover. I can’t stand to miss a single word. And my own special quirk: I have to read it brand new. No borrowing my issue before I can read it… I am a strange bird. Anyway, a special treat today: It is my pleasure to share with you a sneak peek interview with January’s Lucky Magazine cover girl, Jennifer Hudson. I am particularly inspired by Jennifer these days, as she was so successful on her weight loss journey as I start my own on Nutrisystem.

On the nickname her father gave her: “My father used to call me Miss Make- a-Hair,” she laughs. “If I’m tucked away in my room, I can’t help myself, I fool with my hair. I just like hair. And I hate hair salons! I like hair you can sleep in—wild, bed-head hair.” She runs her fingers through it, then pulls her hat down toward her face. “And a hat! I like showing my height, and this hat with the long coat kind of shows you how tall I am … ”

On getting all dressed up from her role as Veronica Moore on Smash: “You’re dressing up as this character, and that character is dressing up for her character—it’s the theater, it’s about costuming, the fittings, the transforming … I loved it.”

On her personal style: “My style has always been … odd,” she says. “I call it being free, expressing myself. You know, creative people? We like to express ourselves. When I was a little girl, I liked to cut up my clothes—we called it Jenniferizing. Or a J. Original! Just because it came that way doesn’t mean you have to wear it that way.” Hudson designed her own prom dress, her own Easter dress, dress after dress. “I would sketch it, and my mom and I would pick out the fabric and we’d have it made! I love to sketch! Everybody else was about the name brands—I’d go to Payless and get something nobody else had!”

On her biggest fashion inspiration, her grandfather: “The most stylish person in my family was definitely him—he’d take you into his closet and be like, ‘Hey! You need to wear this, Jenny!’ ” She laughs at the memory. “He was dressed down, honey, his closet, his clothes, they were sharp. He would pick things out of his for me to wear, and they were always perfect. That’s why I love menswear.”

On how her friends in Chicago think of her style: “I am the strangest thing—my style is utterly weird to them. They’ll be like, ‘Is that a witch hat, why are you wearing that witch hat? What is that hat? I mean, leather shorts? With boots? In the winter??’ They do not understand.”

On why she runs her own errands: “Don’t you love coral? Another one of my phases—right now I love coral lips! I go into Sephora—I love that store—and I have to have every colorful lipstick!” She most definitely does not send someone out to do her shopping. “I love picking it myself, it’s like a field trip!” She thinks for a minute. “You’re not living if you don’t go out and try things for yourself. When I’m out there, that’s when I discover what I like, who I am. You have to be in the land of the living—that’s how you hold on to your identity!”

On her favorite shopping destinations: “I leave the red-carpet stuff to the stylists,” she says. “For everyday, my two favorites are Urban Outfitters and Forever 21. And Nasty Gal! I love that place! Every time I go there, I want everything new that they have. All Saints, too, I love. Then there’s Michael Kors, Givenchy, Rick Owens—I like things that are dramatic in a subtle way. “When Jennifer has free time, I am shopping! I go through every rack because I might’ve missed a piece! Where I live I can walk right out onto Michigan Avenue and shop—walk, not drive—I’ve got to walk! Plus, you forget about eating when you’re shopping.”

On why she’s sticking to Weight Watchers and convincing her family members to join: She still counts Weight Watchers points and predicts she always will. “It’s flexible,” she says simply. “That was something,” she says. “Even David had a spoonful—that was a big deal!” David Otunga, her fiancé and father of her three-year-old son, is a Harvard-educated WWF contender whose diet, she says, is even stricter than her own. “Cheating for him is like, one chicken wing, instead of skinless chicken breast! He is like, no carbs; he only uses two or three seasonings, total, ever. He really understands.” Hudson has gotten many family members into Weight Watchers—together, they’ve lost over 2,000 pounds. “It’s great because before we eat—say, before a holiday or a big family reunion—lots of us are saying, how many points is this, how many points is that, so we’re together on it.”

On the first time she was asked to slim down: “The first time I was asked to lose weight [on American Idol], I was like, ‘What??’ Where I come from, I was never considered particularly heavy.” After a number of crash-diet attempts, Hudson found success with Weight Watchers because it wasn’t about Hollywood-style deprivation. “You have what you’re craving,” she says. “Chocolate is what I love—I have it every day.”

On the crucial element in maintaining her weight loss: Exercise, she says, is critical. She started with walking, which evolved into running. “Going jogging makes me feel powerful and free—like Rocky! In winter I do the treadmill, the Stairmaster, I like challenging things. I always say to myself: ‘Just give me 10 minutes.’ If I do those 10 minutes—the next thing you know, it’s 20 minutes—I trick myself!”

On her daily ritual: “I still take a picture of myself every day— just so I can see myself how others see me. It’s taken me a long time to feel it, get used to it. I’m still figuring it out with my body—rediscovering myself, how I’m perceived. What’s my style? Who am I?”

On how her  transformation has been incredibly fun: “With my new weight, it’s like I have more room to play—sometimes I feel like I’m my own doll, dressing myself up. All of a sudden, a shirt can be a dress, you know?”

On dressing from her son, David Jr: At the mention of David Jr., her face lights up like a Christmas tree; she flashes several iPhone pictures: adorable. “We call him Boss Baby! He says, ‘Mommy, I don’t like that,’ or ‘Momma, you look very pretty.’ ” She stretches out the T-shirt she’s got on to show it off. “I totally dress for my child! I’m going home today, so that’s why I have on this T-shirt. I have T-shirts with Popeye the sailor man on it, ones with different animals, comic-book characters!”

On her new clothing line: “Being a celebrity, you sort of have to look—decent—when you go out, but you don’t necessarily want to be always dressed up, totally perfect. I have to be flexible, comfortable.” Comfort was her priority for JH Collection, her new clothing line on QVC. “I still can’t believe I have my own line,” she says. “Us ladies, we don’t always get cute if we’re getting comfort. You want both.” She thinks for a minute. “I hate when you see a guy and girl out together, and he’s walking along, feeling great, and she can’t walk in her heels and she’s freezing in her dress … ”

On the test she gave each look in the JH Collection: “It has to look as good in size 16 as it does in size 6,” she says. “Would my old self love this as much as my new self? Could big Jennifer wear this?”

J.R. Watkins Natural Apothecary Lemon Hand Cream and Salve

JR Watkins Lemon Hand Cream and Salve on Belle Belle Beauty

This drugstore find has me drooling in a completely calorie-free way. In the interest of my latest adventure on Nutrisystem, I’ve been finding ways other than food to reward myself for workouts and diet victories. And you can probably guess beauty goods are right up my alley. The lemon cream scent from J.R. Watkins is sweet, fresh and delicious. And the hand cream and hand & cuticle salve are coming in extra “handy” this winter. My cuticles are looking healthier after a couple weeks of use. And the back of my hands look more even and perky (is that possible? but yes, I contend it is).

Lemon Cream Hand Cream contains natural shea and cocoa butters, whipped with 10 natural oils in a 96% natural formula. It is a light, fluffy lotion while still being on the rich side. You can use this on hands and other dry and rough areas – I’ve been known to use it all the way up to my elbows.

Lemon Hand & Cuticle Salve is made from a premium beeswax base. While the consistancy is pasty, the salve absorbs quickly unlike some other balms. I love using this at night and before a walk outside in brisk, dry air. I bet this would be great on the ski slopes. The make a dedicated foot repair salve in peppermint, but this could also double for your tootsies.

Both products are: Sodium Lauryl Sulfate Free, Sodium Laureth Sulfate Free, Paraben Free, Phthalate Free, Mineral Oil, Petrolatum free and Dye Free.
