Le Métier de Beauté ‘Colour Core’ Moisture Stain Lipstick

I had yet to try the lipsticks from Le Métier de Beauté, but knowing their penchant for serious wow factor, I knew I was in for a treat.  I am wearing Madaket to warm me up for the fall, Bordeaux trend. I am so impressed with the depth of color.  Even more amazing is the richness of the product.  I didn’t know a lipstick with this much color could be so hydrating.  I put it to the test last night – through the ringer of lots of wine and sliders.  No yucky deposits on my wine glass.  And I still had color on my lips after the greasy (but tiny) burgers!

And I wouldn’t even mind some reapplication because the lipstick feels like lip balm – all sorts of goodies to hydrate and moisturize like jojoba, lanolin and shea butter.  For a powerful lip look, this lipstick will protect and improve the look of your lips and wear fantastically.  They’ve done it again!

MAC Cosmetics Red Lipstick

Who doesn’t want to look glam and polished with really white teeth?  Well, I do.  So I dove into the red lipstick world. I knew the best place to start were the bright and bold shades of MAC cosmetics.  But there are so many to choose from!  Selecting a color from the MAC displays can be overwhelming, so I am sharing my three favorite reds to help narrow it down.

From left to right: Lady Danger, Russian Red, Ruby Woo

Top to bottom: Lady Danger, Russian Red, Ruby Woo

Lady Danger is the most orange of the group. While it looks almost neon next to the other shades, it is a true, real red.  It is more bold, so this is my favorite for a special occasion that calls for a saucy pout, like a night out in the Lower East Side.  I love that Lady Danger is creamy and glossy – not near as matte as the other colors.

MAC’s top red is Russian Red, a velvety, deep red that has been around since the 1980s.  This is my favorite “dress up” lipstick. You can really achieve pearly teeth with these blue undertones. I consider this more “ruby red” than crayon or tomato red.  It is very opaque and matte but not as matte as Ruby Woo.

If you are looking for classic, velvet, matte, pinup red, Ruby Woo is your girl.  The blue undertones are even deeper.  Some say that this is so matte that it is hard to apply, but I think, with a dose of confience, it goes on quite well. You want to make sure your lips are hydrated though because it can be drying.

These lipsticks all have that subtle powdery vanilla that MAC does so well.  They smell good! (odd to say that about a lipstick but it is so darn true)

Lipstick Queen Medieval-Tinted Treatment

Ever crave just a pinch of color while healing chapped lips and improving the health of your pucker? Yeah, me too.  That’s is why I love Medieval-Tinted Treatment.  The woman behind the brand has been magnificently successful lately.  J. Crew and Kate Spade took notice of her fabulous products and have recently launched collaborations.

The treatment is inspired by customs from the Medieval times when full coverage lipstick was considered a sin.  Lipstick Queen manages to achieve that stained look with an amazing amount of moisture.  It is a very subtle shade of pink that just hints at color.  There is no need for liner, precise application or even a mirror.  And the Vitamin E in the treatment makes it a virtual double for lip balm.

The J. Crew collection is sold out for now, but get the original on QVC.

NARS Cosmetics Satin Lipstick – Honolulu Honey

My stylish and loving friend, Alyson, has always worn a nude lip.  She wears it so well… but I was never daring enough to give it a try.  Well, leave it to A to be far ahead of the trend – nude lips are “in”!  And while I was in New York last week, I was on the hunt for a perfect nude.  I had heard lots of accolades for MAC Myth, but I settled on NARS in Honolulu Honey, “a quintessential flesh-toned beige”.  This was my first experience with NARS lipstick and could not be more pleased.  It is moderately long-wearing, but its biggest plus is great conditioning.  I hope to carry this look beyond this year’s trend, because it has always looked classic on Alyson.  And now I am enjoying it as well!

MAC Lipstick Lady Danger

Now that I am fully embracing the red lip, I turned to the uber-knowledgeable Sarah of @StyleIT for a recommendation.  She came through with the boldest, yet most complimentary shade of red I have found.  MAC Lady Danger can, at first, be a shock of color for a fair-complected girl like me.  But I can’t tell you how many compliments I got when I wore it out.  It took a dose of courage at first (and the help of MAC lipliner in Cherry), but the effect was a matte, bold lip that really worked.

NARS Velvet Gloss Lip Pencils

I am most certainly a lip gloss girl (rather than a lipstick girl).  And I loved the idea of delivering a gloss in pencil form.  NARS took a fan favorite Velvet Matte Lip Pencil and added luminosity – while the Velvet Matte are said to offer a lipstick look, I think the Velvet Gloss gives a gloss look with amazing staying power.  My hair doesn’t get stuck in the product (big issue for gloss-lovers with long hair).  Frivolous offers that pale pink that is big for the spring. And I love that the pencil format allows for tons of control in application.
