Rodin Olio Lusso Luxury Face Oil and Lip Balm

I finally got my little paws on some Rodin Olio Lusso goodies.  I have been lusting after this creation since this summer.  Rodin Olio Lusso was created by Linda Rodin, a former fashion editor at Harper’s Bazzar and NYC stylist.  Rodin had access to all the greatest skin care lines in the world, but ached for something simpler.  So she developed her first oil in 2007 in her own kitchen.  Other products followed, all based on the original building blocks of essential oils.  This regal beauty knows her stuff and her emphasis on simple and natural is right up my alley.

I started with her staple – the Olio Lusso Face Oil.  My skin is dry and sensitive, so I have no qualms about smearing oil all over my face.  But this might not be right for those with an acne-prone complexion.  I do get the occasional break out, but using this for a couple weeks did not result in any blemishes at all.  In fact, my skin looked clearer.   The oil is a (very) aromatic blend of eleven essential oils from flowers and other botanicals. I’d categorize the smell as a very strong floral (perhaps gardenia?).  My generally angry and sensitive skin was soothed, and in the morning, I had a glow.  It was the only moisturizer I used in the evenings, and after two weeks, my skin looks more hydrated than ever before.

But I couldn’t just stop there.  Since I consider myself somewhat of a lip balm junkie, I had to try the Rodin Olio Lusso Lip Balm.  It is advertised as having the same floral scent as the oil, but I can’t smell a fragrance.  What I did find is a sheer, natural lip balm that just plain worked.  The formula is not greasy at all. And I adore the chic lucite square compact. I do have a serious case of the “dropsees” and the case even survived hitting my travertine bathroom floor multiple times.  Mom is somewhat of a lip balm  junkie too – it will be a miracle if I make it back from Thanksgiving with this.  I just know she’ll snag it 🙂

eos Smooth Sphere Lip Balm

I’d heard great things about these little balls of lipbalm goodness, but had never come across one in person.  Didn’t take but two seconds for me to plop a couple in my basket at CVS this past week. I had to see what the fuss was all about.

These have zero color, but are incredibly nourishing – perfect as part of the nighttime ritual.  They pretty much covered all the bases here as far as unwelcome ingredients:

  • Gluten-free
  • Paraben-free
  • Petrolatum-free
  • Phthalate-free
  • 95% organic
  • 100% natural

The sphere actually works really well – no edges and even application.  Unlike a tube, you don’t nick the edge of the balm when replacing the cap.  The packaging is very similar to what you find your NARS products in –  soft, velvety plastic.  And one of the highlights for me: surprisingly easy to find in my massive purse.   Right now, I can’t stop using summer fruit as I am craving a beach vacation.  But sweet mint is a close second.

Yves Saint Laurent ‘Rouge Volupté Sheer Candy’ Glossy Lip Balm

When I first saw, these I thought “What is the point?”.  They are ultra-sheer and nothing like a lipstick.  But that’s what is so wonderful about them.  Ever since I bought “Dewy Papaya” it has been my constant companion.

This is the ultimate “lip balm” with very little color, but great hydration. I use it far more often than the eight-hours of promised hydration, but that might be because it smells so darn good.  They say it is mango, but I think it is more grapefruit.  Launched as part of the summer collection, the Sheer Candys are even better for fall and winter.  Wear them during to day to cure “season-change” dryness so your pout will be ready for the rich berry hue that night or the next day!

Bottom line, you probably are paying loads for the packaging but it is a stunner!  I love all the colors and even know a couple of fellow bloggers who have them all.

Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balm in Honeysuckle

I have walked by this stuff in the store hundreds of times, unwilling to shell out the $7 for some lip balm.  But yesterday, I broke down.  And I am so glad I did. After my dogs fervently and completely chewed up my last two lip smackers (why they do this, I have no idea), I was in need of a replacement.

I went for the lightest color, Honeysuckle.  I have been overdoing it on the berry colors for fall.  Who knew I was about to discover the nude “lipstick” I have been hunting for all summer?  Other than NARS Cosmetics Satin Lipstick – Honolulu Honey, I hadn’t found anything.  To my amazement, Honeysuckle was the perfect, semi-sheer nude lip.  It doesn’t require a liner (or a mirror) and it is fantastically hydrating.

I was a little irritated with the packaging… why do we need a big cardboard tube for your basic lip balm dispenser.  But after all that tugging and tearing, I unvieled a little treasure in a brown tube.  The fragrance is floral but very subtle. Now, that was a $7 well-spent.

Guerlain Gigolo (70) Rouge G Lipstick

You get what you pay for, and in this case it is a jewel lipstick compact with a white-gold shimmer designed by Lorenz Bäumer, a Parisian jeweler.  Channeling James Bond, a mirror pops up when the compact is opened. The case is very heavy, yet with some serious glam.

My lips have been exceptionally dry this summer, so, besides this stunner packaging, I was impressed with its skin care capabilities.  Somehow, they are able to package very long term wear while still being highly moisturizing. And according to my nose, this is essentially scent-free.

Gigolo (70) is a cooler tone that works MUCH better on me than shades containing orange. Plus, your teeth appear whiter.  While it is sold as a plum, it actually appears berry-red on me.

This is a pretty penny at $47, but, like I said, the packaging is extraordinary, lip color has great staying power and it is a lip treatment to boot.

suggah Anti-Aging Lip Plumping Treatment

Who doesn’t have dry lips in the summer? And more importantly, who doesn’t want moisturized, pouty and youthful pucker. I was recently introduced to this charmer of a skin care line based in Southern California and I am smitten.  One of their best sellers has earned a spot on my nightstand, permanently.

Suggah isn’t a lip balm, but rather a treatment that can be used morning and night. In my opinion, it does everything a lip balm does and more. Plus the smell is pleasant, natural and vaguely sweet.

The consistancy is a super-rich and emollient balm that can, literally overnight, change the appearance of my lips.  They become ultra-smooth and hydrated. SircuitSkin achives this by using Shea butter, rather than wax or petroleum.  Suggah also contains Maxi Lip™, adding a monster dose of moisture that makes lips look fuller.

No surprise this rockstar is on their bestseller list.
