Clinique Almost Lipstick in Black Honey

I am a sucker for great packaging.  And while I love Clinique, I never expected to get an uber-high end, sleek tube of lipstick from them.  But when they revived the classic color, Black Honey, they did it right.

The tone is right on trend for fall – a wine-colored slash berry wash, that doesn’t required the legwork of a liner.  But that is just the lip of the iceberg.  This isn’t the most moisturizing hybrid gloss/lipstick, but it definitely stays on.  It doesn’t even come off on glasses during dinner or drinking.  The smaller applicator makes blind application much easier.  Not to mention, the slender silver tube looks sleek and can squeeze into an clutch.

So, let’s relive our glory days – you know, when mom got your first lipstick at the Clinque counters?  And of course it was Black Honey.

mark Cheat Sheet Shine-Blotters

I am still a little giddy from meeting the incredibly beautiful and down-to-earth Ashley Green at the Ted Gibson/mark FNO party last week.  Nestled in the Ted Gibson salon and sipping on Moet champagne, I had the chance to bond with the Twilight star over college football and the dry skin hazzards of always being on an airplane.

Almost as exciting was discovering mark Cheat Sheet Shine-Blotters.  I don’t have oily skin, so these sheets were never on my shopping list.  But NYC was a doozy last week, with humidity, rain, heat and sweat. In between events, I would whip out one of these guys in the cab.  They do not remove makeup, but restore a matte finish to the skin.  They provided life to a melting makeup look.  Thanks to their performance, they earned a spot in my purse on a permanent basis.

The Beauty Event – Neiman Marcus

Another Public Service Announcement for all my fellow beauty junkies.  Neiman Marcus is having its fall beauty event from September 8 – 18.  Make a $100 purchase in cosmetics and/or fragrance, and you’ll receive a tote bag (in your choice of three colors) containing samples of Givenchy’s Dahlia Noir, Prada Candy, Bottega Veneta’s fragrance, Laura Mercier’s Face Polish, Jack Black lip balm, Fekkai Technician Mask and Highlighting Cream, Sisley Supremya, Le Metier de Beaute’s new day cream, and AmorePacific’s Time Response Eye Renewal Creme.

Also, specific lines will be offering amazing gifts with purchase.  A great opportunity to pick up something you have had your eye one! As a side note, one of the totes comes in fall’s “it color” – Bordeaux!

Deborah Lippmann Dark Side of the Moon

What a little surprise at the bottom of my nail polish drawer! After taking a season off last winter, my Dark Side of the Moon was forgotten. So sad! I can’t believe the jewel tone trend this fall didn’t remind me of this shade earlier.

When I first purchased this polish, I was looking for an inky black, but it really is more of a deep aubegine.  It has a cream finish that looks shiny on the nail.  Prepare yourself with patience because this will take two or three coats.  Don’t freak out that it looks a little streaky when it is first applied.

This is the perfect “wine-colored” polish for a fall look – and it was in my drawer all along! Nothing better than when something you love is both timeless and trendy at the same time.

My Life in Loubies’ Vanessa – What’s in her bag?

One of my summer’s Chick Lit reads was My Life in Loubies by Erica Negi.  In conjunction with the author and Dress to Kill – Austin blog, we styled the book’s main character in her three locales from the book.   I had a blast working with Erica and thinking through all my cosmetics and what would fit in Manhattan, the Hamptons and Palm Beach!
