Metier de Beaute

This weekend I dove into the Metier de Beaute counter at my local Neiman Marcus.  I thought the products were flawless, albeit in the luxury price range.  My final look was polished and clean.  While there are some valuable and powerful active ingredients in some of the products, none irritated my sensitive skin.

Bobbi Brown Brush Cleaning Spray

Raise your hand if you don’t wash your brushes every single week: guilty as charged.  I know it is not a replacement for brush shampooing, but the Bobbi Brown Brush Cleaning Spray makes me feel just a little bit better about my brush-cleaning-laziness.  This spray is alcohol free and safe for synthetic and natural brushes.  And it is quick drying.  This really comes in handy if you have leftover color on your brush you don’t want interfering with your next application.

L’Oreal EverSleek Intense Smoothing Shampoo

I really like the concept of this line.  The whole line is free of sulfates which initially led me to buy the EverStrong line.  The EverStrong worked okay for me, but when I realized they had an EverSleek available, I was on off to the drugstore.  I have fine hair, but lots of it, and in the winter it can get really unruly (read: frizzy) in the back.  I am not sure if it is the lack of silicon, but this doesn’t weigh my hair down like other smoothing products.  Argan, olive and sunflower oils are used to smooth. Without even blow-drying, my hair is smooth and bouncy.  There isn’t much of a fragrance, which I like in a shampoo, but I’ll overlook it because this stuff really works.

Dermatologist Visit

I know this is hard to believe, but I think sometimes I get carried away with products (haha). I sauntered into my dermatologist appointment yesterday, prideful of all the bells and whistles in my skin care routine.  But she reminded me that simple is sometimes better.  I never have been drawn to the medicinal, fragrance-free skin care.  But that is what the doctor ordered.  I know am paired down to Cetaphil, a retinoid, CeraVe lotion – and of course LOTS of SPF.  I know it will work beautifully but part of me will miss my fragrant routine.  Will report back with results.

Gillette Mach3 Shaving System

Do you remember your first razor?  Well, I do. Weird, I know. It was the round one with the neon disk in the center.  I guess my obsession with cosmetics and products spills over into the beauty tools category too.  My dermatologist recommended this razor as the absolute best.  Although it doesn’t have all the bells and whistles (i.e. 17 blades, huge moisturizing strip, etc.), it has the best performance around.  Leave it to the men to have the best razor and not tell the ladies about it.  Plus, I like its clean and metallic design – doesn’t make me feel so silly and prissy about shaving my legs.

Rene Furterer Myrrhea Anti-Frizz Silkening Mask

I cannot stand drying my hair.  Really, I am so lazy about using a blowdryer.  So, my hair usually ended up on a bun. But.. Eureka! I have found a way to tame my “air dry” frizz and now I wear my long locks down fairly often (a bun will always have a place in my heart).  At night, I wash my hair and use the Silkening Mask, towel dry and go to sleep.  In the morning, my hair is wavy, smooth, full of body and not the least bit frizzy!  This could become addicting.
