Beauty Myths Busted

Beauty Myths Busted // Belle Belle Beauty

Today, I am back on Fox 23’s Great Day Green Country to talk about beauty myths. Now, I am one to say there are no “rules” in beauty – what works for you is always the right answer. But I believe busting these five fallacies will really shake up your routine in the best of ways.

Mascara

1. MYTH: Use mascara to the last drop. TRUTH: Mascara should be tossed every three months. Germ issues aside, mascara formula can dry out, resulting in suffering performance. To get the lushest, silkiest lashes, keep that tube fresh. Drugstore mascaras are outstanding for those who don’t want to splurge on something used for a short time. Try Maybelline’s new The Rocket Mascara and Volum’ Express Mega Plush Mascara.

Fragrance

2. MYTH: Rub in your perfume after you spray pulse points. TRUTH: The rubbing action crushes and corrupts the fragrance. Instead, spray on your neck and wrists and let dry for 30 seconds. I also love to spray perfume in unexpected places like my hair (don’t go too wild – it can dry hair out) and the back of my knees (for a more subtle scent).

Foundation

3. MYTH: Foundation should be matched to your jawline, forehead, cheek or anywhere on your face. TRUTH: Foundation should actually be matched to your neck as it is representative of your true coloring. Not only will this prohibit a line where your foundation ends and your neck begins, but the shade will look more natural.

Shampoo

4. MYTH: You should wash your hair every day. TRUTH: Washing hair strips natural oils, making hair more brittle and dry. Shoot for 3-4 times a week, workouts permitting. I found that my hair became less greasy the less I shampooed as time went on. In the mean time, dry shampoo can really save the day. Spray on dry shampoo and wait five minutes for it to “activate”. Then work through your hair with fingers or a blow dryer.

Attention Scandal Fans: Behind the Scenes Video with Quinn and mark. Cosmetics

Behind the Scenes Video with Quinn and mark. Cosmetics // Belle Belle Beauty

Hooray for Thursday! It means it is time for one of my most favorite shows of the week. Scandal! Do you tune in? If you follow me on twitter, you know it is an event for me. The show is smart, quick and political. Not to mention Kerry Washington has one of the most enviable TV wardrobes.

One of the more intriguing characters is Quinn, played by Katie Lowes. She is haunted by her past and doesn’t have the full story of why she is in D.C.. The video below is a little sneak peak of mark. Cosmetics artist, Jamie Greenberg, getting Katie ready for a “no makeup makeup” look. So good it makes me want to copy it every single day. Enjoy!

All products are available at www.meetmark.com. And PS – I absolutely adore my Touch & Glow Shimmer Cream Cubes All Over Face Palette!

Get The Golden Globe Look – Belle Belle’s Top Five

Katherine McPhee at the Golden Globes // Belle Belle BeautyKatharine McPhee went the daring route with a plunging neckline and classic black. The twitterverse was split on the dress, but you can’t deny that Katherine looks beautiful. Artist Jake Bailey adds “Katharine’s dress looks like it belongs in a Helmut Newton photograph, so I thought the makeup should be strong and sultry…the kind of eye makeup that would be in one of those photographs. It’s an eye look for sure – a smoky eye with a beautiful nude skin palette.” All makeup used was NARS.

FACE:

  • Radiant Creamy Concealer (New for Spring 2013)
  • Light Reflecting Setting Powder – Pressed (New for Spring 2013)

LIPS:

  • Biscayne Park Satin Lip Pencil (New for Spring 2013)

Amy Adams at the Golden Globes // Belle Belle Beauty

Makeup Artist Stephen Sollitto complimented Amy Adams’ “ballet pink” Marchesa gown with soft, but sophisticated makeup. Flawless complexion was played up by her eyes and natural, luxe lips.

Salma Hayek at the Golden Globes // Belle Belle BeautyCelebrity makeup artist, Jeannia Robinette, was inspired by Salma Hayek’s midnight blue dress and balanced the glamourous dress with youthful and fresh makeup. “The eyes are very luminescent – we lightened them up with coppers and silvery peach, then gave them depth with eggplant and plum. With a bright lip, the look was trendy, young, and modern.” All makeup used was NARS.

  • Radiant Creamy Concealer (New for Spring 2013)

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley at the Golden Globes // Belle Belle Beauty

Celebrity Makeup Artist Fiona Stiles went for modern Hollywood Glamour for Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s look. I like that it is slightly more bold than my other picks. That pink lip is one of my favorites of the night.

FACE:

”I dusted Burberry’s Warm Glow Summer Glow no.4 Bronzer on Rosie’s cheekbones and forehead for a healthy, fresh glow. Rosie is so incredibly gorgeous and a bit of sun-kissed glow really suits her.”

EYES:

“I kept Rosie’s eyes very simple; a soft wash of neutral color and a bit of definition in the socket. I elongated the eye with a brown pencil, and softened the line with mark I-Mark Wet/Dry Eye Shadow in Tabac. I love using brown because it’s so sexy but maintains a soft look. Next, I applied two coats of mark Lash All You Want High-Volume Mascara in Black to Rosie’s top lashes and one coat of mark Lash All You Want High-Volume Mascarain Brown/Black to her bottom lashes. I groomed her brows using Anastasia Brow Wiz in Medium Ash, lightly sculpting them with pencil to create the perfect frame for her face.”

LIPS:

“I applied mark Lipclick Full Color Lipstick in Cha Cha for a gorgeous Hollywood finish. A red lip creams glamour, but I matted down the finish and made the edges soft and undefined, patting it on with my finger for a less overpowering look.”

Kate Hudson at the Golden Globes // Belle Belle Beauty

And my award for best hair goes to Kate Hudson – soft, shiny but full and smooth hair. Celebrity hairstylist, David Babaii remarks “Kate is my generation’s Brigitte Bardot showing off soft voluptuous hair that is touchable, glamorous and now Kate’s very own signature look.” note: IT&LY is found in salons.

  • David started with IT&LY’s Pure Water Drops Serum before blow drying.
  • Next, he added IT&LY’s Pure Style Mousse Strong and used a medium round brush at the root area to add volume then switching to a large round brush to smooth and create soft rounded edges.
  • After drying, David created a natural side part spritzing IT&LY’s Pure Volumizing Eco at the base for added lift and down the shaft for more piecey definition.
  • For her sexy fringe he wrapped the bang area around a medium round brush spraying a small amount of IT&LY’s Pure Volumizing Eco again. With the blow dryer temperature on high, he directed heat on the brush followed by a quick blast of cool air to set. Gently he removed the brush to release the fringe.
  • With his fingers he combed through and allowed the hair to fall naturally into place.
  • To finish, he misted the hair with IT&LY Pure Definition Hair Spray for soft touchable hair with memory hold.

I’d love to hear your favorite looks of the evening in the comments below!

Get the Look: Allison Williams at the Girls Premiere // Belle Belle Beauty

I admit I have some catching up to do on Girls, the drama on HBO staring four twenty-somethings living in NYC. But I am a big fan of the show. The plot is sassy and smart and real. After watching some of season one, I fell in love with Allison Williams, daughter of NBC Nightly news anchor Brian Williams. She has classic beauty and the smarts to be an actor taken very seriously with tremendous talent.

At Wednesday night’s Girls season two premier, Celebrity Makeup Artist Julie Harris for CARGO Cosmetics worked to compliment Allison’s Altuzarra bustier top.

  • Julie first applied a thin layer of the CARGO Liquid Foundation, which is a great oil-free foundation, in shade F-20 to Allison’s flawless skin in order to add a little glow for the red carpet
  • She then applied a touch of the CARGO OneBaseTM to highlight and brighten under the eyes
  • Julie wanted to bring out the blue in Allison’s eyes so she applied a gold shimmer shadow all over the lid and a slightly deeper gold shade in the crease and right below the lower lash line using the CARGO Color Palette in Baja
  • To emphasize Allison’s beautiful lashes, Julie applied the CARGO High Pigment Pencil in Black along the water line and TexasLiner (liquid liner with a felt tip – available this spring) along the top and bottom lashes before applying two coats of mascara with the CARGO TexasLash Mascara in Black for maximum volume and impact
  • Using the CARGO Bronzer in Medium, Julie focused on the high points of Allison’s face (the forehead, the temples, cheekbones, chin and down the sides of her neck) to give skin warmth
  • Julie then applied CARGO Blush in Cannes to the apples of her cheeks to create a fresh glow along with the CARGO ColorStick in Champagne on the brow bones and cheekbones to highlight while also adding a light shimmer
  • She also lightly dusted the CARGO blu_ray™ Blush/Highlighter in Pink Shimmer to the top of cheeks and up to the temples, creating a dewy effect to go with the shimmery eye
  • Lastly, Julie kept Allison’s lips soft with CARGO Lip Gloss in Fresno, a pretty pink/nude gloss

Get The Look: Kaley Cuoco at the People’s Choice Awards

39th Annual People's Choice Awards - Red Carpet

There isn’t anything quite as refreshing as a star walking the red carpet in beautiful, affordable makeup. At last night’s People’s Choice Awards, Kaley Cuoco went for a girly mod look with the help of mark Makeup Artist Jamie Greenberg. Here’s how she got the look:

Face: Started with mark’s Min-A-Real Cream to Powder Foundation, layered on mark’s Touch & Glow Shimmer Cream Cubes All Over Face Palette with Just Blushing in Lovespell. Lastly, used mark’s Bronze Pro Bronzing Powder all over the face and decollete and mark’s Jewel Body Cream all over.

Eyes: Used i-mark in luvstruck on the lid with a swipe of mark’s Touch & Glow on top and lightly blended into the crease. Next, used mark’s Keep It Going Longwear Eyeshadow & Liner in Entourage with a kiss of the purple shade from mark’s On The Dot Bold palette as liner under the lower lash line. Finished up the look with 2 coast of mark’s Scanda-lash mascara in Blacklash.

Lips: mark’s Lipclick Luxe in Pink Icing for the red carpet with a coat of mark’s Glimmer Shine Lip Gloss in Pink Glimmer.
