YSL Beauty Youth Liberator

YSL Beauty recently launched a new collection with a catchy little name: YouthLiberator. The star of this collection is a scientific break through called Glycobiology. This stuff is big time – Glycobiology was awarded 7 Noble Prizes. So what does this have to do with skin care? Check out what YSL has to say:

Glycobiology is the study of glycans, molecules which are naturally present in the skin. Glycans are responsible for directing communication between cells, ensuring that they send and receive the messages required for optimal performance. Without glycans, cellular communication breaks down and the body cannot properly function. With age, the quantity of glycans naturally decreases, slowing the skin’s regeneration process and triggering the visible of aging: wrinkles, loss of density and dullness of complexion. Yves Saint Laurent introduces GLYCANACTIFTM, a patented complex which imitates the action of glycans, helping to restore your skin’s youthful beauty.

The line is developed for skin over 30. And I have really enjoyed the products. The Forever Youth Liberator Creme does not plump like some other moisturizers, but it does lend to radiance with its mirror-effect micro-shimmer particles. Makeup is a dream to apply over the Cream and adds a luminous look. And the real highlight, for me, is that includes SPF 15. I usually use two seperate products – moisurizer and then SPF – so this is a time saver. If you are willing to have two different creams – one for evening and one for morning – this is a great option.

I also tried the Yves Saint Laurent Beaute Forever Youth Liberator Eye Cream. The consistency is relatively thick, which I like. I feel like there is more control in the application. Again, there wasn’t a lot of plumping but definitely a illuminating effect. My puffiness and dryness was soothed and the under eye area was refreshed.

Spring Trends for Daughter-in-Law Diaries

I am so excited to be guest posting over on Daughter-in-Law Diaries today! Creator, Ali Katz, launched her site as a forum and resource for ladies who are adjusting to their new roles as daughter-in-laws. What a cool idea! She is receiving some phenomenal press – Ali is definitely going places. Head over and check out the new site – I am not even married, and love it 🙂 And here is a sneak peek of the post. Congrats, Ali!

How to incorporate my favorite spring trends into your beauty routine:

Bold Brows

via BellaSugar

This Spring, we will see loads of bold prints and colors appear in our closet. To compliment the adventurous look, brows will be stronger and fuller. A prominent brow actually better frames the face. On it’s own, a filled-in, groomed brow can finish the face just as much as a swipe of lipgloss.

To get the look, fill in your brows with Le Metier de Beaute Brow Bound Eyebrow Pencil. It is dual ended with a brush at one end. Use this to comb out the brow hairs first. Then use it after to blend the gel-like formula. Then, to hold the brows in place, comb through Anastasia Brow Gel in Clear.

Bronzed Glow

The runway celebrated golden skin that looks just sun-kissed. Instead of risking sun damage, wrinkles and skin cancer, use one of the new bronzing palettes. Use a large brush to lightly dust below the cheekbones, down the bridge of your nose, along the hairline and on your neck. Try Physicians Formula Bronze Booster Glow-Boosting Season to Season Bronzer or Guerlain ‘Terracotta – Four Seasons’ Bronzer. Then add a little Benefit Sunbeam on your cheekbones and brow bone.

Bright Nails

via Belle Belle Beauty

Work those neons and pastels into your nail wardrobe as well. Bring out your inner child and try blues, greens, fuschia and nail art. I love Essie polishes because they are high quality, but at a low commitment cost. And they always have a range of on-trend colors. Their new Resort collection features the bold “Sure Shot” and perfect, purple pastel “She’s Picture Perfect”.

Eyeko Skinny Brush Mascara

Eyeko Skinny Brush Mascara is for the ladies who, like me, want a mascara that gives massive length but doesn’t go overboard on thick lashes (@lovelylanvin, this one is for you). I like the dimension that long, separated lashes give to my relatively large eyes. The black color is not matte, but glossy. I haven’t had any fall out, smudging or flaking.

But Eyeko goes above and beyond. While my lashes are healthy, I am always up for more nourishment. Eyeko includes pro-vitamin B and natural oils to strengthen the fine hairs. And I love the guitar pick-like tool that is included. Hold this shield behind your lashes when applying to get complete coverage. The tube is innovative, allowing you to get out every last drop of product.

And I would be remiss to not mention a little singer named Adele uses this stuff on her magnificent lashes.

Dr. Hauschka Clarifying Toner

Some beauty rules and made to be broken. So I learned when I picked up the Dr. Hauschka Clarifying Toner (for oily or blemished skin) rather than the Facial Toner (for my drier, more sensitive skin). I realized my mistake after a couple of uses, but frankly, I had already falling in love with this toner. I am not someone who insists on this cleansing step, but I love that it balances the skin and gets off all the makeup remnants.

The Clarifying Toner balances and soothes with anthyllis, calendula, nasturtium, echinacea, witch hazel and daisy extracts. It minimizes the appearance of pores and reduces redness without any irritation at all. It also makes a great aftershave for your man. Bonus: my blackheads around my nose have cleared up significantly. So, I guess my hasty grab at Whole Foods ended happily!

BY TERRY Hyaluronic Face Glow

I feel so remiss haven’t not reviewed this product earlier. It was my winter holy grail – lightweight, combats dryness and evens out my skin. The Hyaluronic Face Glow was my first By Terry product I had ever used. And I ordered it sight unseen. I ordered Warm Glow, the darkest shade available (not completely sure why). But it actually works. It requires some blending around the neck and I would be better with Nude Glow, but I love the bronzed look it gives me.

It is paired down version of a foundation. It primes (and I often use it as a primer when I really want to go flawless) and moisturizes. But I wouldn’t call it a tinted moisturizer. It is more light-weight and “airy” with its mousse-like feel. And I adore the signature By Terry floral scent. It is very subtle, and lovely.

So why is this such a good moisturizer? The primary ingredient is whipped hyaluronic acid molecules. Along with galanga leaf extract, this penetrates while softening and plumping. The mineral pigments give a radiant, but not dewy or shinny finish.

This product is unlike anything else I have tried. If you love light-weight foundations and tinted moisturizers and have even an iota of dry skin, give it a try.

Shiseido Launches Spring 2012 Collection

I am sucker for Shiseido skin care and cosmetics. The quality always seems to be consistant, backed by Japanese expertise and aesthetic. The Spring collection has vibrant colors that I cannot wait to try! And the lightweight SPF has my name on it.

  • White Lucent Intensive Spot Targeting Serum ($125): Diminishes dark spots in ten days and prevents future pigmentation from appearing by inhibiting melanin formation at all four stages.
  • White Lucent Anti-Dark Circles Eye Cream ($55): Reduces dark-circles by combating poor microcirculation and pigmentation issues with Shiseido’s patented Multi-Target Vitamin C technology. Great when concealer just isn’t enough!
  • Benefiance WrinkleResist24 Intensive Eye Contour Cream ($55): Shiseido scientists evaluated 20,000+ ingredients to produce this superior wrinkle-smoothing technology that fights all five types of eye area wrinkles.
  • Perfect Mascara Full Definition ($24): The dual-textured brush captures individual lashes with a nourishing formula that lasts up to sixteen-hours without clumping. Available in two shades – Black (BK901) and Brown (BR602).

The three new shades include: Ice (BL215), Sunshower (OR313) and Pale Shell (PK214). Try mixing Sunshower and Pale Shell for a light, peachy hue, perfect for Spring!
