NARS Orgasm Illuminator

Hopes were high – NARS Orgasm is supposed to be the best color ever, right? This just made me look, well…. like I was perspiring … a lot.  I couldn’t get the illuminator to incorporate with my overall look.  It just didn’t want to blend.  And it went above and beyond “dewy”.  Plus, this famous color just looked wrong on me.  I have fair skin with freckles and some age spots – unfortunately.  The product made me look like I had told an inappropriate joke or had too much wine too quick.  And I was sweating…

Armani Face Fabric Second Skin Nude Makeup

I thought I would fall in love with this stuff.  And, to some extent, I did.  I love that it is sheer and relatively easy to put on.  It doesn’t cover up dark spots but gives a slightly more finished look.  But mom didn’t give it the two thumbs up.  Frankly, I understand why.  The overall effect is a little matte and feathery – if that makes any sense. The blending doesn’t give that overall natural look.  Next time I am going to try the Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer.

LORAC Perfectly Lit Oil-Free Luminizing Powder

Okay, I admit when I saw this product, I thought it was eyeshadow!  Because I tend to only use a base eyeshadow and great liner, I went ahead and put the Spotlight shade all over my lids.  To my glee, it look fabulous!  It actually stayed on the whole night and I got compliments from my friends on my eye makeup.  But next time around, I did use the product as directed. It did brighten and even my complexion, and the result was a shimmery glow.  I would use it, in this way, for special occasions.  My fortunate accident, although, led me to a new favorite “eyeshadow”.

MAKE UP FOR EVER HD Invisible Cover Foundation

I love having my makeup done professionally, so it wasn’t a hard sell when the bride asked if we wanted an artist to help the bridesmaids before her wedding.  But I was unexpectedly impressed when the artist turned to MAKE UP FOR EVER.  She used HD Invisible Cover Foundation.  The pictures turned out flawless.  According to Sephora.com, “this foundation creates a soft-focus effect, which is designed to meet the coverage concerns of those in the spotlight. It leaves your complexion with such a flawless finish, it can withstand bright or harsh lighting.”  And I can say honestly, we did not look like we had a ton of makeup on.  It was, in fact, invisible in the photography.  It lasted all night and was sweat-proof during the steamy ceremony.

L’Oreal Studio Secrets Magic Perfecting Base

I am not usually one for primers and other peripheral steps in the makeup process. But a recent reading of a review for Studio Secrets Base made me want to run out and buy it right away. I am always plagued by the dark under eye circles. I have loved both La Mer and Chantecaille concealers. By adding the base under by eyes first, my skin was smoother. Concealer stayed on longer and looked more natural. For a drugstore product, Studio Secrets Base really performs. I am making room on my upcoming trip in my paired down makeup bag for it as my new “must have”.
