Essie Spring Collection 2012 – Orange, It’s Obvious! Nail Polish

To accompany my recent acquired “tan” thanks to Xen-Tan, I need a shock of a bright color for my manicure. It is finally spring, after all. I picked up one of my bottles from the Essie Spring Collection – Orange, It’s Obvious!. The shade is perfectly on trend and looks great with darker skin tones.

If the orange shade doesn’t suit you, the spring collection is full of other options. Rock mint green with Navigate Her. I love the fuchsia shade, Tour de Finance. Or the timeless neutral, A Crewed Interest.

Spring Trends for Daughter-in-Law Diaries

I am so excited to be guest posting over on Daughter-in-Law Diaries today! Creator, Ali Katz, launched her site as a forum and resource for ladies who are adjusting to their new roles as daughter-in-laws. What a cool idea! She is receiving some phenomenal press – Ali is definitely going places. Head over and check out the new site – I am not even married, and love it 🙂 And here is a sneak peek of the post. Congrats, Ali!

How to incorporate my favorite spring trends into your beauty routine:

Bold Brows

via BellaSugar

This Spring, we will see loads of bold prints and colors appear in our closet. To compliment the adventurous look, brows will be stronger and fuller. A prominent brow actually better frames the face. On it’s own, a filled-in, groomed brow can finish the face just as much as a swipe of lipgloss.

To get the look, fill in your brows with Le Metier de Beaute Brow Bound Eyebrow Pencil. It is dual ended with a brush at one end. Use this to comb out the brow hairs first. Then use it after to blend the gel-like formula. Then, to hold the brows in place, comb through Anastasia Brow Gel in Clear.

Bronzed Glow

The runway celebrated golden skin that looks just sun-kissed. Instead of risking sun damage, wrinkles and skin cancer, use one of the new bronzing palettes. Use a large brush to lightly dust below the cheekbones, down the bridge of your nose, along the hairline and on your neck. Try Physicians Formula Bronze Booster Glow-Boosting Season to Season Bronzer or Guerlain ‘Terracotta – Four Seasons’ Bronzer. Then add a little Benefit Sunbeam on your cheekbones and brow bone.

Bright Nails

Work those neons and pastels into your nail wardrobe as well. Bring out your inner child and try blues, greens, fuschia and nail art. I love Essie polishes because they are high quality, but at a low commitment cost. And they always have a range of on-trend colors. Their new Resort collection features the bold “Sure Shot” and perfect, purple pastel “She’s Picture Perfect”.

Shiseido Launches Spring 2012 Collection

I am sucker for Shiseido skin care and cosmetics. The quality always seems to be consistant, backed by Japanese expertise and aesthetic. The Spring collection has vibrant colors that I cannot wait to try! And the lightweight SPF has my name on it.

  • Urban Environment Oil-Free UV Protector SPF42 ($30): An ultra-light, oil-free UVA/UVB sun protection lotion with a matte-finish. Fends off smoke, smog and sun!
  • White Lucent Intensive Spot Targeting Serum ($125): Diminishes dark spots in ten days and prevents future pigmentation from appearing by inhibiting melanin formation at all four stages.
  • White Lucent Anti-Dark Circles Eye Cream ($55): Reduces dark-circles by combating poor microcirculation and pigmentation issues with Shiseido’s patented Multi-Target Vitamin C technology. Great when concealer just isn’t enough!
  • Benefiance WrinkleResist24 Intensive Eye Contour Cream ($55): Shiseido scientists evaluated 20,000+ ingredients to produce this superior wrinkle-smoothing technology that fights all five types of eye area wrinkles.
  • Perfect Mascara Full Definition ($24): The dual-textured brush captures individual lashes with a nourishing formula that lasts up to sixteen-hours without clumping. Available in two shades – Black (BK901) and Brown (BR602).
  • Shimmering Rouge ($25): Uses Super Hydro-Wrap Vitalizing DE to moisturize lips during daily wear. Available in seven new shades: Opal (PK214), Sorbet (PK415), Mango (OR316), Butterscotch (BR317), Sugar Plum (RD718), Temptress (RD320) and Venus (RS619, my personal favorite!!).
  • Shimmering Cream Eye Colors ($25): Inspired by Artistic Director Dick Page’s photography, these eye shadows can be blended to create impeccable color. The three new shades include: Ice (BL215), Sunshower (OR313) and Pale Shell (PK214). Try mixing Sunshower and Pale Shell for a light, peachy hue, perfect for Spring!

NARS Diamond Life Nail Polish

This might just be the highlight of NARS Spring collection. And I love this tip by artist, Raquel Grijalva:

“Try this color as a reverse French manicure. Topping a natural nail bed with this metallic violet tip, creates a look on the nails that’s both minimalist and bold.”

What do you think? Is this polish on your list?

Dior Spring Lips & Nails

I feel like I need a lip and nail color cleanse after a holiday season full of deep red and dark jewel tones. Anticipation of spring makes me want to wear something delicate, feminine and pretty. So, no better place to turn than Dior’s Spring 2012 Garden Party Collection. Inspired by a party in a Norman rose garden, the collection features soft pink, purples and pinks – plus a scented, mint-green nail polish I am dying to get my hands on.

Also by Dior, my new Spring lip color, Dior ‘Rouge Dior’ Lip Color in Versailles, is a hydrating, semi-opaque, coral. I like that it isn’t such a deep color that you can’t whip some on without a mirror. The golden shimmer has a gloss-like effect. And the finish has staying power but still has shine.

NARS Bilbao Lipstick

It is no secret that I love NARS Lipsticks, especially for a pop of color. But the new Spring collection offers a peachy-nude lipstick that is remarkably pretty – feminine and demure, delicate but polished. I like it because it just has that touch of plum that gives some definition to a nude pout.

Doesn’t hurt that it is named after one of my most favorite spots, a city on the Northern coast of Spain. How could you not love a massively exotic langage (Basque), Frank Gehry’s Guggenheim Museum Bilbao and Basque sidra, an effervescent, only slightly sweet apple adult beverage? I need a return visit, wearing my Bilbao lipstick, naturally.
