One day recently, I was having a chat with my twitter friend / fellow blogger / fellow Oklahoman, Irene, about her amazing hair. I am still struggling to come up with a routine after 34 years, but it always seemed she had hers down. So she’s on the blog today sharing her routine. Take it away, Irene!
Women are always evolving their hair routine. I know the last year has totally transformed how I style and treat my hair. First, I learned how to round brush my hair. After the novelty of that wore off, I mastered the rough dry for messy volume. Most important was learning that I needed way more hydration than I thought. And if I doused my hair in moisture, I could actually air dry my hair!
But it wasn’t just moisture that made this possible. It was an introduction to L’Oreal Paris Ever EverStyle Texture Tousle Crème. While I used to think creams were suited for curly hair, this just isn’t true. I can use a quarter-sized amount of this and air dry for a messy, piecy and tousled look. The scent is great and it doesn’t leave my hair crunchy or sticky. Waves are soft and touchable.
With this colder weather, I sometimes don’t want to go out with wet hair. You can alternatively work it through strands before bed. Or rough dry and use fingers to encourage the tousled waves.

I was having a discussion with some blogging buddies today and they were “confessing” to me that they wash their hair everyday. I think women have gotten the message that frequent washing is a big fat no-no. But honestly, particularly with this group who don’t color or blow dry their hair, I think washing every day is okay. Personally, I like limiting it to three times a week to help preserve the color in my hair and keep my dry ends hydrated. But if you work out everyday or feel like hair is greasy or unclean, daily washes are the way to go.
But you might want to consider some shampoo specifically designed for oily hair and scalps. Shu Art of Hair debuted their New Cleansing Oil Shampoo Anti-Oil Shampoo designed to remove oil and buildup and cleanse with high astringent power. It rebalances sebaceous glands to slow future oil production. Pantene Pro-V Aqua Light Weightless Nourishment Shampoo is a great drugstore option that leaves hair clean and weightless. If you are a daily washer and want to cut down, there are some tricks that got me out of the everyday obligation. First, I purchased a Mason Pearson brush. Using it at night, its bristles help distribute oils throughout hair, keeping roots volumized and ends hydrated. Second, use dry shampoo wisely. Apply to roots and wait five minutes. Don’t touch. This allows the product to absorb oils. Then blast with a hair dryer while you tousle with your fingers. I’ve found this makes the product totally disappear and oil is removed completely.
