New Hair Care on FOX23’s Great Day Green Country

New Hair Care on FOX23's Great Day Green Country on Belle Belle Beauty

It is Friday and you know what that means! I’m back on FOX23’s Great Day Green Country and this week I am sharing all that is new and wonderful in the world of hair care from color to shampoo. Every season, it seems as if they are coming up with things bigger and better, from drugstore to salons to keep our tresses looking good. Some of my top new favorites:

Gone are the days of having to spend a fortune at the salon for a change in hair color. I do have some caveats – don’t go lighter or add complex highlights yourself. That is best left to a professional. I’ve been toying with the idea of adding some ombré touches to the ends of my hair myself. It seems this trend isn’t going anywhere. L’Oreal makes this easy with three different formulas. All three use a plastic brush for maximum control and natural looking accents.

L’Oréal Paris Superior Preference Ombré Touch is the most subtle effect. Féria Coloured Ombré adds a dash of red, perfect for those who are tempted to go a little edgy or experiment with red tones. Féria Intense Ombré is specifically designed to create an ombré effect on darker hair colors and ethnic hair types. Looking for an all-over change in hair color? Check out  the special edition Paris Lumière Collection with three iconic shades inspired by the lights of Paris.

Alterna, one of my favorite salon quality lines and partly owned by Katie Holmes, recently launched their Caviar anti-aging product line with flagship product, Caviar CC Cream for Hair. This multi-tasking styling product works on hair in ten different ways leaving strands healthy and shiny. Having some frizzy moments? Check out Alterna Haircare Caviar Seasilk Oil Gel to give a little hold and control. I’ve been so into the return of flat iron styles and Alterna Caviar Perfect Iron Spray allows me to do it damage and guilt free. Lastly, Alterna Caviar 3-minute Shine Boost recharges even the dullest of hair in a jiffy.

Are you a hair color beginner but still shying away from the salon? Look no further than Madison Reed. This new line makes colorists available through an online color advisor, mobile app, live web chat, digital photo consultation or via phone. And they will even send a colorist to you in San Francisco and New York. The formulas are handcrafted in Italy and come in 27 shades. Everything is ammonia- and resorcinol-free ensuring a fade-resistant, salon-quality color.

And back to L’Oreal – they are on fire! I had fallen hard for their Advanced Haircare line (this mask) and based on its success, they just launched their Advanced Hairstyle line with a focus on performance. Five segments offer whatever our particular hair styling needs: hold (“Lock It”), volume (“Boost It”), smooth (“Sleek It”), curl (“Curve It”) and texture (“TXT It”). And you can’t beat the bargain prices. I’m particularly wild about the Sleek It Iron Straight Heatspray (can you tell I am into the super straight look?) and the Lock It Fine Control Hairspray (it might be beating out my beloved Elnett).

Technology in Beauty on FOX 23’s Great Day Green Country

Technology in Beauty on FOX 23's Great Day Green Country // Belle Belle Beauty

Today, I am back on FOX 23’s Great Day Green Country to discuss all the latest and greatest in the skin care industry. The rapid pace of technological advances has made skin care a makeup and exciting place. Below are some of my five favorite things out of the labs that change the way we take care of ourselves!

NUFACE Trinity Facial Toning Device is clinically tested to improve facial contour, skin tone, and reduce fine lines and wrinkles by delivering soft wave microcurrent. But now this little tool has an even better perk: it has been found to enhance the absorption of other water-based products (aka so many of my favorite serums!). ($325 at Nordstrom)

Speaking of Hyaluronic acid, the newest from Trish McEvoy, Beauty Booster Serum is an exclusive and new formulation packed with the hydrating ingredient and dual action peptides. My skin was immediately smoothed and hydrated with just one application. Not to mention it looks more radiant without being greasy. Can’t wait to try it with my NUFACE Trinity Facial Toning Device. ($128 at Saks)

BB were once all the range, but CC creams are coming on strong. And it isn’t just hoopla. Cosmetic companies have found a way to marry foundation or tinted moisturizer with skin care ingredients to great benefit for us consumers. CC Creams also help correct discoloration often with slightly more coverage. The new Supergoop! ‘Daily Correct’ CC Cream Broad Spectrum has a whooping SPF 35.  Going above and beyond, it also contains anti-aging benefits and super antioxidants to help fight free-radical, wrinkle-forming damage. ($32 at Ulta) Clinique’s Moisture Surge CC Cream SPF 30 Hydrating Colour Corrector instantly blurs imperfections and leaves a glowy, even finish. I particularly love it for drier skin. ($35 at Saks)

Sometimes the best new technology comes from natural itself. Kate Somerville discovered the Dilo nut on recent travels and transformed it into an oil that has been a champion at improving signs of aging. The natural oils in Kate Somerville Dilo Oil Restorative Treatment work to improve hydration and strengthen moisture barrier. I’ve found that I get a glow even though it is so quickly absorbed. ($65 at Sephora)

While Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur Couture Glossy Stain has been around for a couple months, its weightless liquid formula is still transformative. The newest shades feature a shimmer with a luminous 3D effect. You get glossy, hydration with amazing lasting power whether you opt for matte or shimmer. ($34 at Saks)

Six Favorite Sunscreens and Tanners

Six Favorite Sunscreens and Tanners // Belle Belle Beauty

Time for another appearance on Great Day Green Country! This morning, I’m highlighting favorite sunscreens and tanners in honor of Springtime. I know the official first day is in March, but there is something about it finally being April that makes me ready to soak up some sun. First, a couple notes about sunscreen:

  • FDA is now prohibiting the use of ultra-high SPF numbers on packaging. You don’t need to seek out shockingly high SPF factors like 100 – they don’t do anything more than SPF 50. Look for SPF 20 and higher (50 for the most sun intense days) and make sure to reapply very frequently.
  • Sunscreen sprays haven’t been thoroughly tested – if you decide to use them make sure you liberally spray completely covering skin and let them soak in (don’t rub).
  • For the best sun protection look for zinc or titanium oxide. My sensitive skin tends to do better with these “physical blockers” and they are the more proven sun protection ingredients.

Now on for my favorites:

ZO Skin Health ‘Oclipse’ Sunscreen + Primer SPF 30

I do my best to wear sunscreen every single day, but this stuff makes you want to wear it. The primer/sunscreen hybrid features natural melanin to reflect those nasty pigment causing rays. The silky formula works perfectly under makeup. (Tulsa folks: you can also purchase these products from Gabriel Horn at Dr. Manduano’s office).

Kate Somerville Body Glow Sunscreen SPF20

Kate always does it right – this SPF has the prettiest golden pearls that improve the look of skin while hiding imperfections. SolarX Complex blocks UVA and UVB rays while antioxidants like rosemary extract work to improve skin inside out. Mango butter hydrates and Caffeine improves tone and contours.

Cle de Peau Beaute UV Protection Cream Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 50+

A truly luxurious sunscreen, the price point on this one can be shocking. But I’ve had my tube for quite a while and cherish every drop. The silky and creamy sunscreen prevents photo aging. It uniquely contains thyme and turmeric extracts to prevent DNA damage to cells that cause wrinkle formation. I love this under makeup, but it also has a luminous finish on its own – perfect for looking good at the pool.

Shiseido Ultimate Sun Protection Lotion SPF 50+

For the sports buffs, this sunscreen is a champion for extreme outdoor protection. This formula soaks seamlessly into skin and has great high value SPF. It is very water-resistant so less need to stop and reapply if you are in the middle of a race (or just a marathon pool session). It is also perspiration-resistant and sand-proof.

Brush On Block BOB Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Mineral Powder Sunscreen

This novel formula provides invisible, natural sun protection in powder form, avoiding that whole greasy issue. I love this for traveling because you don’t have to deal with that pesky 3 ounce liquid rule. It also is fabulous for children or men with thinning hair.

Xen-Tan Luminous Gold Gel Sparkle Weekly Medium Self-Tan

I just won’t shut up about this fabulous self-tanner so I am going to mention it again. This clear, silky formula leaves the prettiest bronze shade. I sense no odor and the iridescent golden shimmer gives instant gratification. It is also so valuable when you can’t pass the drying time with dark clothes – feel free to wear while or light colors without fear.

And a note for those who are looking for something at the drugstore: I am a huge fan of the L’Oreal Sublime product line. They smell great, look good and are easy to use.

Beauty Myths Busted

Beauty Myths Busted // Belle Belle Beauty

Today, I am back on Fox 23’s Great Day Green Country to talk about beauty myths. Now, I am one to say there are no “rules” in beauty – what works for you is always the right answer. But I believe busting these five fallacies will really shake up your routine in the best of ways.

Mascara

1. MYTH: Use mascara to the last drop. TRUTH: Mascara should be tossed every three months. Germ issues aside, mascara formula can dry out, resulting in suffering performance. To get the lushest, silkiest lashes, keep that tube fresh. Drugstore mascaras are outstanding for those who don’t want to splurge on something used for a short time. Try Maybelline’s new The Rocket Mascara and Volum’ Express Mega Plush Mascara.

Fragrance

2. MYTH: Rub in your perfume after you spray pulse points. TRUTH: The rubbing action crushes and corrupts the fragrance. Instead, spray on your neck and wrists and let dry for 30 seconds. I also love to spray perfume in unexpected places like my hair (don’t go too wild – it can dry hair out) and the back of my knees (for a more subtle scent).

Foundation

3. MYTH: Foundation should be matched to your jawline, forehead, cheek or anywhere on your face. TRUTH: Foundation should actually be matched to your neck as it is representative of your true coloring. Not only will this prohibit a line where your foundation ends and your neck begins, but the shade will look more natural.

Shampoo

4. MYTH: You should wash your hair every day. TRUTH: Washing hair strips natural oils, making hair more brittle and dry. Shoot for 3-4 times a week, workouts permitting. I found that my hair became less greasy the less I shampooed as time went on. In the mean time, dry shampoo can really save the day. Spray on dry shampoo and wait five minutes for it to “activate”. Then work through your hair with fingers or a blow dryer.
