L’Oreal Serum Absolute Advanced Age-Reversing Makeup

I’m on a drugstore makeup kick.  The next few posts will feature some of my recent finds at CVS.  After seeing digital pictures of myself playing in Napa this weekend, I decided my tinted moisturizer is sometimes not quite enough coverage. Because I had read about the beneficial ingredients in this foundation, it was at the top of my list.  The formula includes SPF 17, pro-retinol A and vitamin C.  Coverage is medium and smooth.  The finish is matte, so a cream blush would add a nice luminosity.  The coverage stayed all day with a great natural look.

Revlon Colorburst Lipgloss

Chic packaging, great colors and totally affordable.  I couldn’t wait to try this gloss that seemed to offer it all. When I pulled it out this weekend, my friend thought it was Chanel because the packaging is so similar. The lighter shades are sheer but add just a touch of color.  The darker shades are relatively pigmented for a gloss, but still has great staying power.  The consistency is not sticky and really moisturizing.  I don’t need lipbalm for hours after I apply the lip-gloss even if the color has faded slightly.

My favorite colors:

  • Color 900 is a bright blush pink and appears subtle but springy
  • Color 022 has just enough orange to honor spring trends, but is neutral and sheer enough to compliment all skin tones
  • Color 008 is a very sheer rose

Psssssst Instant Spray Shampoo

My hair stylist has raved about this dry shampoo, but she was only able to find it when she was working in New York.  The other day, I FINALLY found it at a Texas drug store and immediately snapped it up.  Psssssst lived up to all expectations.  The scent is unlike any other dry shampoo and really does smell clean.  If you don’t have a heavy hand, the powder doesn’t show up at all.  The product eliminates grease and product, allowing you to quickly restyle.  Looks like your blowout was done that morning!  Definitely a step up from my old standby: baby powder.

update: this bottle does not last long so if you come across it, scoop up a couple!

NYX Caribbean Collection 5 Color Palette Eye Shadow

I am blown away by the quality of NYX cosmetics.  While the blush and some of the eyeliners were slightly disappointing, this 5 color palette knocked my socks off.  I can’t help but compare it to the highly popular Urban Decay Naked Palatte.  While there are not as many colors, the shape of the containers actually makes it easier to use brushes with the NYX palatte.  The colors are highly pigmented but also neutral.  There is very little shimmer to them, which is my preference.  For under $9, this is a no-brainer.

Maybelline Fit Me Foundation

Why, why, why! did it take me so long to pick this foundation up?  I was definitely intimidated that I would select the wrong shade, but when I visited CVS, I found handy testers.  After visiting the mirror aisle, I was sold on #115 (Ivory).  Good thing for the testers because I would have purchased #110 (Porcelain) had I not had the opportunity to try shades.  Because I was sans makeup (in my defense, it was 8AM), I put the makeup on in my car.  My skin is super sensitive right now due to starting a retinol treatment, but this did not irritate my skin at all.  The coverage is really good – but do not confuse this with heaviness.  The makeup is actually really light.  How did they do that?  Six hours later, coverage is still looking great.  I see what all the hype was about.  Don’t hesitate picking this up next time you are at the drugstore.

L’Oreal EverSleek Intense Smoothing Shampoo

I really like the concept of this line.  The whole line is free of sulfates which initially led me to buy the EverStrong line.  The EverStrong worked okay for me, but when I realized they had an EverSleek available, I was on off to the drugstore.  I have fine hair, but lots of it, and in the winter it can get really unruly (read: frizzy) in the back.  I am not sure if it is the lack of silicon, but this doesn’t weigh my hair down like other smoothing products.  Argan, olive and sunflower oils are used to smooth. Without even blow-drying, my hair is smooth and bouncy.  There isn’t much of a fragrance, which I like in a shampoo, but I’ll overlook it because this stuff really works.
